To many outsiders, Rwanda is largely known for its 1994 genocide. Since the end of the war and genocide, however, Rwanda has made significant progress in rebuilding its economic and social infrastructure as well as positioning its touristic assets in the market place. As a result, the country is now viewed as the most secure place in the region. Internationally, it is hailed as the bedrock of good governance. Corruption is negligible. The crime rate is low. Tourism traffic is on the rise (25% increased in 2004) and GDP growth rate has been strong, averaging 6% over the last three years. Strong political leadership, driving a vision of a better future, has firmly liberated the country from the shackles of the 1994 nightmare. And to the majority of Rwandese, this decade is one of promise
